NUEVA YORK, ESTADOS UNIDOS (27/ENE/2014).- Un jurado investigador estadounidense agregó cargos de asesinato y acusaciones adicionales de tráfico de drogas contra el líder de Los Zetas, Miguel Ángel Treviño Morales, conocido como “Z-40”, anunció el lunes la fiscalía del distrito este de Nueva York.
Treviño fue detenido en el norte de México en julio del 2013, pero Estados Unidos busca su extradición.
La nueva acusación incluye conspiración para asesinar a rivales de Los Zetas, miembros de Los Zetas, y policías y miembros del ejército mexicano, además de cargos adicionales de distribución de cocaína en Estados Unidos.
A Treviño Morales ya se le buscaba en Estados Unidos por cargos de tráfico de drogas. Según la nueva acusación en Nueva York las conspiraciones para llevar a cabo los asesinatos ocurrieron entre septiembre del 2004 y julio del 2013.
Treviño Morales, considerado uno de los más violentos capos de la droga de México, fue capturado el 15 de julio por la Marina mexicana, junto con otras dos personas en un camino de tierra en las afueras de Nuevo Laredo, en la frontera con Laredo, Texas. Fue un arresto importante para el Presidente Enrique Peña Nieto. El capo sigue preso en México.
La fiscalía del distrito este de Nueva York describió una breve historia de los Zetas en su acusación, explicando los inicios de la organización en el Cártel del Golfo y después su evolución a grupo independiente, encargado del tráfico de toneladas de cocaína desde México hacia Estados Unidos.
También habla de que la organización perpetró “numerosos actos de violencia, incluidos asesinatos, asaltos, extorsión, secuestros y actos de tortura”.
El jurado investigador federal agregó los nuevos cargos el 23 de enero, pero estos fueron anunciados el lunes.
